I’ve recorded my album – why should I get it mixed at the VIP Lounge?
It’s all very well writing a great song and recording the ultimate performance but does your mix cut it? After working on your track are you simply too close to it to be objective?
This is why major record companies often employ specialist mixers. They recognise that a specialist mixer can bring a new perspective to the track.
Dare Mason has a proven track record having mixed for Placebo, The Church, Soul ll Soul and Elton John amongst others. He has been presented with two gold discs, one for The Blow Monkeys (RCA) and one for Tommy Tokyo (Warner Bros).
Mixing takes place in the control room using three sets of monitors all powered by industry standard amplifiers. Mixing can be done with clients on hand or online.
How much does it cost?
Here are some examples of prices per mix. These are meant to be rough guides as no two projects will ever be the same.
Example 1 – Vocal accompanied by one or two instruments £75
Example 2 – Vocal accompanied by three or four instruments (no drums) £125
Example 3 – Full band with drums, guitar, keys, backing vocals etc £200
These prices are based on a three to four minute song. In general, the longer and more complex the song, the higher the price.
You will be entitled to a 5% discount for two to five songs and a 10% discount for more than five songs.
How does online mixing work?
The process of online mixing is fast, easy and reliable.
The first step is to get in touch via email or, better still, give us a call on +44 (0)1736 332592 and we can have a chat about your requirements. You will be given an estimate of the cost at this stage and we will also discuss a time frame for mixing. If you decide to go ahead you will be given instructions on how to prepare the session files.
Next you either post a DVD of the song file(s) or you upload to a file hosting service such as Dropbox.
Once a song has been mixed, you will be sent a stereo MP3 version for approval. If no changes are necessary, you pay for the mix via PayPal and you will then receive a full resolution, CD quality file of the mix.
Alternatively, if you wish to make adjustments to the mix, email or call Dare directly with your instructions and he will tweak the mix until you are happy with it.
Which styles can be mixed?
Dare has worked with rock bands, indie bands, metal bands, folk singers, jazz and all manner of dance acts including house, hip hop and R n B.
If you have a vision for the mix, let us know or if you have a particular influence or style in mind, give us a reference ie an artist or album whose sound you would like to emulate.
On the other hand, after a couple of listens to the song Dare will have his own take on how the song should be mixed and sometimes, unless you have a particularly strong idea on how it should sound, it may be best to just let him go ahead and follow his aesthetics.
Remember though, Dare is limited somewhat by the recording. He cannot radically change or fix what you have recorded. However, he can make it sound richer, wider, fatter and more like a commercial release.

What about remixing?
Generally what happens is that Dare mixes the material that he is sent. However, if additional recording or programming is warranted, we’ll let you know and we can discuss it.
